Usenet can be considered a BBS and is generally used for discussion within specific newsgroups. While Usenet is still used today, the servers with long retention are mostly commercially operated. ISPs are also less likely to run their own servers now.

How do I get started?
ALTEXXANET runs a "standalone" usenet server which does not pull feeds from other servers. The only newsgroups which exist are local to our server. You'll need to obtain a news client from our downloads page and point it to news.altexxanet.org.
